I define trafficking as the exploitation of vulnerability in any situation. It’s the exploitation of vulnerability of economic dysfunction, it’s the exploitation of vulnerability of sexual abuse, it’s the exploitation of vulnerability of girls with low self-esteem, or boys with low self-esteem. Trafficking is simply an exploitation of vulnerability. (Lauran Bethell – International Consultant for Women’s and Children’s Issues)
This story is retrieved from a real-life situation of a researcher/ feminist activist that formerly visited Thailand in her vacation. Through the suggestion of the tour-guide, she came to see the ping-pong show until realizing that was “a sequence of women that came on the stage, inserted objects into their vaginas, then spit them out”. The items were varied, started with ping-pong balls, ribbons, eggs, and finally the main attraction: live animals. As the audience was full of excitement, she took the fish with her hands and manually inserted it in her vagina. After around ten seconds, she expelled the fish back into a bowl. And the fish was still alive. Another animal part of the show was live birds fluttering their wings before and after insertion. Another activity that was opened for experience is 'fingering'.... And this activity is marketed as one of the ‘must-do’ for tourists when they come to Thailand.
